Anti-snoring appliances
Although this treatment option has been available for some time it is only in recent years that the issue of snoring and the possible remedy with a dental appliance has been taken more seriously, especially as an alternative to fairly invasive surgery to the soft palate with uncertain degrees of success.
The appliance is made from moulds of the teeth and fits comfortably over upper and lower teeth. An adjustable mechanism between the two parts of the device keeps the jaw in a slightly forward position which increases the airway, stops the soft palate collapsing and vibrating and thereby eliminates the snoring.
Most patients notice an improvement with the first use, although it may take a week or two to fully acclimatise to wearing it and some fine tuning of the appliance to eliminate the snoring completely.
The most appreciative comments have come from the partner of the individual for whom the appliance has been made, but there is no doubt that the quality of sleep for both has been improved as well as restoring a more harmonious relationship between them.
